New lung function machine at Scarborough Hospital

Thanks to your donations, funding was provided for a state-of-the-art lung function machine in the cardio-respiratory department at Scarborough Hospital.

The machine, called EasyOne Pro, will be used to monitor the lung function of the many patients that come through the department with a broad range of conditions.

Before the equipment was funded, the department only had one machine for testing lung function. This was stationary and unable to be moved. This meant that patients would have to come to the department to get tested, sometimes leading to the equipment being unavailable due to patient demand or room occupancy.

Thanks to the EasyOne Pro, patients can now be monitored in more comfort, with a more portable machine that adapts to their needs. Staff can even go to patients’ bedsides to measure things like spirometry, lung volume and gas transfer measurements right where they are.

This convenience and flexibility have proven invaluable, especially for patients with mobility issues who cannot visit the department easily.

Having a second unit also means wait times have been slashed from around 20 weeks to about six weeks, with patients now receiving timely assessments, diagnoses, and treatments, improving their healthcare experience and treatment pathway.
