New chairs for pulmonary rehabilitation at York Hospital
24 JUNE 2024
This Pulmonary Rehabilitation Week, York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity are thrilled to unveil new chairs for the therapy portacabin at York Hospital. These chairs were funded thanks to a donation from the Puffin Support Group (formerly Breathe Easy Support Group).
The Puffin Support Group supports individuals with lung conditions, their families, and caregivers. Through dedicated fundraising efforts, they’ve made a big difference by enhancing patient facilities.
The waiting area in the therapy portacabin serves a variety of patients, including those attending cardiac rehabilitation, pain clinic, renal rehabilitation, and pulmonary rehabilitation. Previously, the chairs were in need of repair and there were not enough accommodate all patients.
Thanks to the Puffin Support Group’s generosity, the waiting area now boasts 20 new chairs. Some have arms to help patients stand, and there are 2 bariatric chairs to ensure everyone has comfortable seating.
Fran Butler, Advanced Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist (Pulmonary Rehabilitation and Respiratory Outpatients), said: “We’re so grateful for the new chairs, funded by the Puffin Support Group. Patients in our Pulmonary Rehabilitation classes love them! Our old chairs were constantly breaking, leaving us with very few. These are a huge improvement!”
Pulmonary Rehabilitation (PR) is a vital program that helps people with lung disease breathe easier and improve their overall wellbeing. Through exercise, training, and self-management skills, patients manage their condition and this reduces the burden on hospitals. PR empowers individuals to manage their health, addressing physical, emotional, and mental challenges.
York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity extends a heartfelt thank you to the Puffin Support Group for their continued support. Their generosity significantly enhances the patient experience, making a real difference on their road to better health.
