Toys for the Children's Therapy Team, Scarborough
9 APRIL 2025

Thanks to your donations, York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity has recently funded resources for the Children’s Therapy team at Springhill House. These toys including bubble machines, sensory baby balls, calming sensory toys and resources will be used to run specialised groups designed to support children with a range of communication needs.
Children with speech, language, and communication difficulties face challenges that can affect their academic performance, social interactions, and emotional wellbeing. Many of these children require timely support, as early intervention is crucial for improving outcomes.
In addition to the child’s needs, families often struggle to find the right kind of support, leaving them feeling isolated and uncertain about how to best help their child. Parenting a child with communication challenges can be overwhelming, and parents may feel unsure about how to provide the right environment for their child's growth and development.
Harriet Cousins, Apprentice Speech and Language Therapist, explained, “We are in the process of setting up groups for children with a variety of communication needs.
"These items are to allow us to run several groups for children with speech, language and communication needs. The groups will support both the children and their families in a timely way, when they initially need the care and advice.
“The groups will also be a support for parents, providing a network for parents which enhances parental wellbeing and in turn facilitates the child. The groups will allow children who need support to seek it in a safe and fun environment."
