Spirometer
5 FEBRUARY 2025
York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity have recently funded an additional spirometer for the Critical Care Outreach team.
Paula Cooper, Critical Care Outreach Sister explained” The handheld device is used on deteriorating patients who have underlying autoimmune conditions such as Myasthenia Gravis and Transverse Myelitis. Patients whose breathing may acutely deteriorate due to the condition and need to be assessed at any time of day or night should they require it. The spirometer is used to measure a patients lung volume and air flow. Previously there was only one machine available for staff to use out of hours.
The additional spirometer will enhance the patient experience by reducing a delay in assessment and treatment with a quicker response to deterioration.”
