Breaking down your fundraising goal!
Ready to fundraise? We'll help you break down your target into manageable activities, so you'll be amazed how quickly it adds up! Our targets are a starting point – many of you will achieve more. Set a personal fundraising goal that reflects the difference you want to make!
Start early for the best chance to reach (and exceed) your target. We'll show you how you can raise a minimum of £1,000 over 5 months. This provides a comfortable timeframe, but remember, you have the flexibility to reach your target even faster if you're keen to accelerate your fundraising!
Month 1: Share your story online
Total:£150
Kick off your fundraising efforts by telling people you are doing it.
- Personalise your fundraising page and explain your motivations for taking part.
- Link up your activity- connect your fitness app to your fundraising page.
- Spread the word with family, friends, and colleagues.
- Share, Share and keep sharing! Be strategic and post your updates just after pay day.
Month 2: Utilise your network
Total: £300
Spread awareness and utilise your network.
- Add your fundraising page to your work signature email. Not sure how? Get in touch and we can help.
- WhatsApp your network to ask for donations.
- Don’t forget about LinkedIn!
- Ask a local business to sponsor you.
- Put posters up on your notice boards/ staff room.
- Part of a gym, running or swim club? Post it in their Facebook group and ask to put posters up.
- If possible, ask your workplace to match your funding
Have you reached your fundraising target already? We recommend increasing your target on your fundraising page to aim higher and encourage more donations.
Month 3: Fundraising squares, raffles and sweepstakes!
Total: £600
Fundraising squares, raffles and sweepstakes are a great way to raise additional funds.
- Fundraising made easy! Take a fundraising square and sell the individual squares to your network. The winner receives a prize or a percentage of the total, making it a win-win for everyone. You could raise between £50-£100.
- Declutter for a good cause! Host a bring and buy sale. Ask friends, family, and colleagues to donate unwanted items – books, gifts, anything! – and ask people for donations. This can easily add an extra £50 to your fundraising.
- Is there a big sporting event coming up like the Grand National? Organise a sweepstake with a proportion of the proceeds going towards your fundraising, adding a potential £100 to fund.
- E-bay for charity! If you have something to sell that’s worth a bit more, you could auction it to raise another £50.
Month 4: Host a bake sale, quiz night, or themed party!
Total: £850
Check out our A-Z fundraising ideas that you can incorporate into your social calendar.
- Organise a bake sale or bake-off in your office
- Speak to your local pub about hosting a quiz night.
- Host a themed party such as 'Come Dine with me' and charge for your meal.
Month 5: Get your community involved
Total:£1,000
- Hold a bucket collection or bag pack at your local supermarket. Three people doing this for an afternoon can raise around £350!
- Speak to local schools about raising money for you e.g. a non-uniform day or school fair.
- Ask a local local business to give you a gift voucher you can raffle off.
- Host a film viewing at your local community centre.

In 2024, Elaine raised a whopping £1,200
when she took part in the Great North Swim one-mile challenge. Elaine says "Don't be afraid to ask and keep asking. I took some advice from my daughter and decided to post my fundraising link every day with a new and hilarious reason why people should sponsor me. It worked, and I'm proud to have raise over £1,000 to support the York Frailty Virtual Ward".
