This section of the website is for Trust staff who are looking to apply for charitable funding.
We love to receive applications for items, courses and projects that will help to improve patient experience and support staff wellbeing across the Trust.
What can you apply for?
York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity funds improvements to the hospital environments and services which are above and beyond NHS funding.
You can apply for funding for the following areas:
- Equipment
- Patient care and experience
- Building and refurbishment
- Staff wellbeing and training
- Staff retirement party
- Research
How to apply
- Consider whether the item, course or project meets the essential criteria. You can find out more in the FAQs below.
- Obtain a quote for your item, course or project including VAT, delivery and installation costs. Contact the procurement team to get the best deals from trusted suppliers.
- Complete the application form. Make sure you tell us how the funding will make a positive difference. It then will need to be signed by your line manager.
- If you are applying for general funds, then send the form to yhs-tr.charity.finance@nhs.net.

If you are applying to a designated fund within a Care Group, the application will need to be signed by one of the authorised fund holders for that group. Please contact the charity on hello@yshospitalscharity.org to check if you are unsure who needs to sign the form before sending it to yhs-tr.charity.finance@nhs.net.

- You can then order your items or book your course using the budget code and instructions provided.
Other things to consider
- If minor works is required for your project, you will need to contact facilities to obtain a quote for this and include in your application costs.
- If you are applying for a training course, you will need to complete a ‘learning leave B’ form alongside your application. This can be downloaded here.
- If you are purchasing medical equipment over £1,000, you will need to complete a MERG form following confirmation of a successful application. This can be downloaded here.
- The purchase of any IT services, equipment or systems must be approved by Digital Information Services and ordered via the service desk.
- You must ensure your item or project complies with infection prevention regulations if applicable. You can contact the team here.
- Applications over £50,000 need a business case. Please contact your care group business manager.
