Apply for funding

Any member of Trust staff can apply for charity funding. You will need your line manager’s approval for the application.

All applications should be considered against the following:

• The public perception test - Would you be proud to tell a donor this is how we spent their money?                                       
• The patient benefit test - Would this truly benefit patients? How many patients would benefit?                                         
• The additionality test - Should this item or training be supplied by your employer? Only non-essential items or non-mandatory training will be funded

There are two types of funding available.

Designated funds have been raised through fundraising or donated to us to be spent on specific wards, areas, or specialities. Where an appropriate designated fund is known, the application should be to that fund in the first instance. If you don’t know which fund is appropriate, applications can still be made, and the charity finance team will identify the most appropriate fund.

General funds have been raised through fundraising or donated to us to be used where they are most needed. Each hospital site has a general fund which can be considered where a suitable designated fund is not available or to supplement insufficient designated funds. They cannot be used for social events. 

All fund balances fluctuate throughout the year due to demand, so there is no guarantee that an application will be successful.

Once an application has been submitted, your application will need to be approved.

If you have applied to a designated charity fund, this will need to be approved by an authorised fund holder before submitting.

You will receive confirmation via email to confirm whether your application has been successful, along with further instructions on how to order.

An authorised fund holder is a nominated individual within a care group responsible for approving funding applications. They ensure that the application is appropriate and that sufficient funds are available. Depending on the amount requested, different fund holders may need to approve the application. For requests up to £10,000, an authorised fund holder can approve the funding.

We aim to review all charitable funding applications within 10 working days.

Once your application has been approved, you will receive confirmation and instructions of how to proceed. A budget code will be provided for use on Oracle to order your item.

No purchases will be reimbursed without prior authorisation.

When your order arrives, work is complete or you have attended your course, please let us know as soon as possible. We’d love to come and take a photo so we can include the item or project on our You’ve Funded It page. This demonstrates to our supporters how their donations are spent and encourages future support.

If you would like to apply for funding for a retirement celebration, please use the dedicated form on staff room rather than the funding application form.

If your application is unsuccessful due to lack of funds but does meet the criteria, please contact the team if you would like to look at potential other funding options.
